Blended Family

This week lesson we learned about blended family. Blended family come in many ways. I do not come from a blended family but after this week lesson I have gain respect and a better understanding on blended family. It is hard enough not getting along with your brother and sisters but I could not imagine how it will be meeting someone you did not know and calling them your brother or sister. In class, we learned four suggestion for parents in a blended family to improve their relationship as well with the children. Take minimum of 2 years for normality, birth parent should do all heavy discipline, step-parent should be a great aunt and uncle, and parents should have daily conference behind close door to be able to figure things out. Out of all these four suggestion, the one suggestion that really stood out to me was "step-parent should be a great aunt and uncle". This was a very interesting one for because I believe that is probably the best way to start and build a relationship with the child. Every child love the cool and fun to be with aunt or uncle. This will allow them to break any ice and will get to know the child. This week lesson has help me understand that any family can work as long as everyone is willing to accept and adapt to each other.

Parenting

Why parenting? Parenting is a calling and has certain blessings and experiences that can only come from it. Heavenly Father will give us all He has and it is part of His plan for us to be in a family as well as to have a family. I believe parenting is the greatest calling/job anyone can have in this mortal state. This week in class, we learned how we can parent better. The more we try to control our children, the less we are able to influence them for good. We should involve children, teach them to contribute instead of lecture. Short consequence will help them try to become better and we should teach them to do chores at home to help them understand the value of contribution. As parents we should not try to be so over controlling with children. Power lead to confidence but also takes away our relationship and connection with our children. Parenting should be something we all enjoy and we should always put our children first.

Communication

Communication can be define as the imparting or exchanging of information or news or means of connection between people or places, in particular according to Google. We need communication in our everyday life. Without communication, there will be no interaction between people and social media will mean nothing. This is why communication is super important in any relationship. There are three type of communication: word, tone and non-verbal. With the change of each of these type of communication in a conversation, the mood and interpretation of the conversation can completely change meaning. The process of how two people communicate is ideas and feelings will form in one person then lead to Encode, Media, Decode and then ideas and feelings will form in the other person. to improve communication in a relationship, couples should have daily talk and go on date weekly.

Fidelity

Fidelity
Today in class, we learn about fidelity. Fidelity can be define as faithfulness, loyalty, and consistent. A great example to define this is a stereo system. It take many equipment to be able to get a clear sound. Also with a stereo system, you are able to edit or auto-tune the music to make it sound better. This was compare to a relationship. Many time, people who are in relationship will act different when they are surrounded by people. A relationship requires many attributes and parts (equipment) on both side to be able to make it into a better quality relationship. Fidelity can only be develop in a relationship by both people are committed to each other and are willing to look over each other weakness.

Marriage

Who are more likely to get marry? The answer is educated, good income, skill sets people. In the book, the race that are more likely to get marry are Caucasian and American Asian. The reason is people with a well educated will have a better income. This will give them more confidence and a foundation. A research as proven that getting marry increase education, income and skill sets because marriage change many life style.

Marriage can change life style in many ways. In the process of marriage, parents and other family members will be involve in the wedding. This could cause a division in the family and relationship. Debts will also start to come to play. The average cost for a wedding is $30,000. When debts come, stress also come. By not having more enough money, this will lead to postponing or delaying the wedding. Postponing will weaken the relationship and could cause doubts. It is interesting to see that the way how we start our marriage will have a great effect on our future marriage life.

How important is dating?

Dating is the first step to marriage. We have to go on dates and be able to find and get to know the person we are going to be with. Dating leads to courtship then engagement and finally marriage.
The purpose of dating is to find interest and attributes in the other person to see if you are compatible with the other person.

There are three things a guy usually do during the date. He plan, pair off, and paid for. These are know as the three P's. Planning will help the girl know how good the guy is able to communicate. Pair off allow the guy and the girl be able to share interest and get to know each other. Paid for allow the girl to know that the guy is able to provide. Relating these three P's is also in the Proclamation to the World. As a Husband, he must Provide, Preside and Protect. Dating prepare men to become a husband. Dating allow young ladies to see the potential the guy has for a husband. It allow men and women to practice for marriage. Dating is an important part of life.

SISTERS!!!!

Sisters
This week lesson has made me appreciate and love my sisters more. I am thankful that I have five wonderful, beautiful and awesome sisters any brother can ask.

In my family, there are five girls and two boys. Me and my brother are in the middle. We both have experience of having older and younger sisters. Looking back, my older sisters has taught us both so much and has help us prepare for the future.

An interesting fact that I learn this week about sisters is that having more sisters, I will have more advantage in a relationship. With five sisters, I grew up with five different personalities and five different mood swings. I have learn how to adapt and understand each one of them.

Growing up, I learned how to cook, clean, do laundry, and learn that girls and boys have equal role in a family. They always tell me and my brother that by learning all of these skills, they are only helping us become better husband. It is true! Now that we are older, those skills has prepare us to become husband. Learning those skills, will help my wife have less stress and I would be more of a father figure in my children life.

Culture With Family

Does Culture Affect Family Life?

One interesting topic that we discuss this week in class is about culture. It was interesting to learn that culture play a great role in family unit. Where our ancestors come from, help build a foundation of practice in the family.

My family is Hmong and are from Laos. Growing up, I learn at an early age to respect and greet my elders. There are usually party every week, where family and friends come together to eat and enjoy time with each other. Whenever our cousins or any Hmong in the community need help with anything, my family and other families will always set a date aside to help them with their need.  At a young age, I learn that family is first than anything else fall behind. Because of this family and service culture, I have learn the importance of family and friends are in my life. I have appreciate more of how keeping close with them, life is more happy and easier. My family has also been affect by this by helping us become more united and know that no matter what happens, we will always have each other.
